Get Free Teacher Training at Verizon’s Thinkfinity.org
by Dr. Jennifer Fritschi
As school districts scramble to stretch dollars, a teacher’s desire to gain new skills or obtain fresh and engaging education resources for his/her classroom might be restricted by a district’s tight budget.
What can teachers do?
Verizon Foundation’s Thinkfinity.org may have an answer.
Thinkfinity.org is a free educational Web site that offers thousands of education resources, including K-12 standards-based lesson places, online activities and videos.
Every resource on Thinkfinity.org is created or approved by one of the nation’s leading educational organizations, such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science http://www.sciencenetlinks.com/, the National Council of Teachers of English http://www.readwritethink.org/ or the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History http://historyexplorer.americanhistory.si.edu/, and it’s all free.
Summer is a great time for teachers to get involved—and Thinkfinity trained!
As a former teacher, I know that summer is prime time for teachers to participate in informal and formal professional development opportunities and do research to gain additional skills and insight.
This month, the Verizon Foundation campaign to train 1,000 teachers to use the free resources on www.thinkfinity.org was launched.
Free online Webinars (45 to 60 minutes), will be held each weekday throughout the month. And for those who can’t make a weekday session, a special Webinar has been scheduled for Saturday, June 20th.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion, and a free downloadable mini poster.
To sign up, visit thinkfinity.org, click on free teacher or training, or Course/Sessions/Attendee sign-up.
Thinkfinity.org’s professional development is aligned to the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). Additionally, Verizon’s Thinkfinity.org is a professional development affiliate of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills which supports the integration of 21st century skills into all aspects of teaching and learning.
